Velux Plus Mixed Use

Tracing the legacy of Velux Ankara: Velux Plus. Rising alongside the original Velux project on Istanbul Road—one of the city’s main arteries—Velux Plus integrates with it to form a unified urban landmark as a mixed-use development.
Comprising 11 blocks and a total construction area of 110,876.49 square meters, the project is shaped by the convergence of two distinct design zones, brought together through user experience. In one part, the blocks encircle the perimeter of the design area, creating a central recreational space that gains a strong identity through a nomadic garden. In the other part, the blocks are positioned in a linear arrangement.
The urban voids formed by the arrangement of the blocks are transformed into activity zones through the rhythmic placement of canopies. These spaces accommodate a variety of events such as street food festivals, open-air movie nights, concerts, and markets—inviting users to actively engage with the design area. At this point, accessibility becomes a key feature. The project site is accessible from three different edges of the parcel. Within the project, circulation is enhanced and made continuous through moving walkways, escalators, bridges, and landscaped elevator cores. While the main landscape level prioritizes hard surfaces to support commercial activity and circulation, green gardens are created on the setback terraces of the blocks, introducing nature into elevated layers of the project.
A minimalist design approach is adopted for the façades. While the modern façade language dominates the rising blocks, it transitions into a more classical tone at the commercial level through the use of a warm material-brick-creating a striking contrast.
