Ordu University Emin Çetinceviz Central Library Building

Ordu University Emin Çetinceviz Central Library is designed not merely as a library building but as a focal point of the campus’s socio-cultural life, aiming to become a key element that enriches academic life.

While examining the fundamental spaces of libraries—such as periodicals sections, book halls, and study rooms—and their relationships with each other and the users, these connections were interpreted with the aim of ensuring coherence and functionality. On the ground floor, sections requiring quick access and dynamic circulation, including current periodicals, media library, and stationery, are organized. The first floor is designed for longer stays, housing thematic book halls and group study rooms. Vertical circulation areas serve as connecting elements between these spaces and are arranged in an amphitheater form to enhance social interaction.

The massing of the building has been shaped as a result of this relationship. The current periodicals and café are designed as interwoven spaces, aiming to define a semi-open area through the mass movement. This same mass movement also shapes the entrance façade, giving it a distinctive character.

The issue of lighting was given great importance to enhance the efficiency of reading and study areas, with windows designed at a human scale to allow controlled natural light penetration. The balance between solid and transparent elements on the façade was carefully maintained, resulting in a clearer expression of the building’s massing movement.

Günümüz problemi olarak, kütüphanelerin değerini kaybettiği algısını değiştirmek ve tam aksine, özellikle üniversite kütüphanelerinin sosyal yaşamın merkezinde yer aldığını göstermek adına, akademinin, çalışma kültürünün bir parçası olmayı başaran ve kampüs yaşamının merkez noktasına yerleşen, modern bir kütüphane yaratmak hedeflenmiştir.
Bu anlamda Çetinceviz ailesinin Ordu Üniversitesi’ne bağışladığı, ODÜ Emin Çetinceviz Merkez Kütüphane Binası, tam da bu misyonla tasarlanmış bir yapı olmanın ötesinde, hayır işi olarak bir binayı üniversiteye hibe etmek, üstelik oldukça modern bir mimari dili desteklemek, dekorasyonundan bilgisayar sistemine kadar bir kültür yapısını bütünüyle ele almak anlamında hem ümit verici hem de örnek olması gereken bir projedir.
