Velux Ankara
The concept of shopping, as one of the core elements of social life, has increasingly become associated with buildings that sharply define their boundaries with the city, encouraging people to carry out their social activities within enclosed spaces. In developments disconnected from the urban fabric, social life is also confined within certain limits. 'Velux Ankara' removes these boundaries and embraces the dynamic flow of the city within its design. Positioned invitingly toward the street, it ensures the continuity of the urban experience and integrates seamlessly into the rhythm of the city.
“Velux Ankara” is a mixed-use development comprising a total construction area of 276,524 m², 14 blocks, and 1,133 independent units. The blocks are designed to draw strength from one another, much like the fabric of a city. Despite its scale, the project is conceived at a human scale through articulated massing, the voids between buildings, and a layered spatial hierarchy.

Aiming to support a 24-hour cycle of urban life, “Velux Ankara” functions as a compact city fragment by integrating key urban activities-such as walking, socializing, receiving services, shopping, and exercising-into its residential fabric. The project accommodates diverse spaces including a cultural congress hall, food and beverage venues, social facilities, event areas, an open-air amphitheater, and activity rooms. An open-air retail concept is created around a central square-referred to as the ‘Nomadic Garden’-which is surrounded by commercial units and accessible from multiple directions.

The residential units are designed in various sizes and configurations to accommodate different lifestyles. By incorporating features such as underground parking, social, cultural, and recreational spaces, gallery voids within the blocks for natural light and ventilation, continuous balconies along the façades, and setback terraces that create open spaces, the project aims to transcend the conventional boundaries of contemporary residential architecture.

Site Plan
The elevation difference that defines the landscaped garden, the residential units surrounding it, the commercial spaces integrated into the street layout, and the inclusion of residential units with open spaces facing the street all contribute to making 'Velux Ankara' function as a compact urban fragment.
